Independents Week , 2007-07-01 00:00:00 - 2007-07-07 00:00:00: Local First Vermont is sponsoring a statewide celebration of Vermont's independent and locally-owned businesses. During the first week of July, we will be hosting events, educating customers, and running a media outreach program to build excitement, awareness, and independence among Vermonters. Stay tuned for more information. In the coming weeks, we will send member businesses tips on how to participate and engage customers.

Localize Your Business Workshop

Local First Vermont, in partnership with the Downtown Rutland Partnership, will hold a Localize Your Business Workshop on Tuesday May 12, from 9-10:30am. The program will feature tools and ideas for local marketing campaigns, as well as interactive discussion and idea sharing to create stronger and deeper connections within local business networks. Bring plenty of your company's marketing materials to share. The program will be held in the Nellie Fox Room of the Rutland Free Library, Center St., Rutland.

In study after study, researchers have found that the economic impact of shopping for goods and services at locally-owned businesses is significantly greater than at non-local alternatives. For instance, in Austin, TX Civic Economics found that for every $100 spent at a local bookstore $45 stayed local, but for every $100 spent at a chain store only $13 stayed local. Transfering some of this money from chain or internet businesses to local businesses can have a huge impact! Think Local First!
